Announcing Auditions for World Dance Showcase 2021

Our popular annual showcase gives you the opportunity to travel the globe from the comfort of your Publick Playhouse seat, when professional troupes perform dances from a panoply of cultural traditions. Breathtaking costumes, authentic music, and the enchanting grace of the dancers will make you feel like a world traveler. The 2021 World Dance Showcase will be presented FREE of cost as a virtual concert pre-recorded on the Publick Playhouse stage.

Auditions for World Dance Showcase 2021 will be by pre-recorded video only. Performers of traditional, culture-specific dance styles (ages 16 years and older,) residing in Maryland, Virginia, or District of Columbia, may apply. Applications will be accepted beginning December 14, 2020, until January 18, 2021. Six dance groups will be selected. Those selected will be invited to perform their dance(s) on stage at the Publick Playhouse on February 27 and 28, to be recorded professionally. Dances will be recorded with professional lighting designs to enhance the beauty of the performances and create the feeling of a Publick Playhouse live event. These final videos will be edited together and streamed as a virtual concert on March 27, 2021. Each dance group selected by the adjudicators will be awarded an honorarium of $800.
